Capstone Ideas.

Option 1: One idea that I have for my cap stone is to make a music video with 2 or 3 musicians and may or may not include vocals I would really like it to involve at least a piano and it would be a video to showoff the talents of the musicians as well as have many interesting shots and perhaps if it calls for it some visual effects added to the video.

Inspiration: I was inspired by a group of guys on YouTube called ThePianoGuys who make similar videos and as soon as I saw them I really wanted to try to make a video doing something similar.

Option 2: I would like to take a scene from a already existing movie and completely strip the original sounds and music and recreate all of the sounds and music tracks for the scene using foley work.

Inspiration: I was inspired to do this from a video I saw from students that attend the Berkley School of Music who did the same thing with a scene from Toy Story 3 as well as the past capstone by Jason Michael Dorrier who did the same thing with a fight scene from watchmen.

Option 3: Another options would be to create a documentary going around to all of the well known restaurants and placed to go in Indianapolis.

Inspiration: what inspired me to do this is while sitting with my friends trying to figure out what to do we found ourselves not having a clue as to what there is to do and restaurants to eat in Indianapolis.

These are cool. If you could do a music video it would be really neat to create a video that actually responds to live sound. For instance, you and your ensemble play live and the video, responding to your music, plays behind you. (Not sure if I explained that well...but it looks REALLY cool in my head!)

Someone desperately needs to create something for downtown Indy. There's really no catalog of the restaurants and "hot spots" for downtown and the surrounding area. This would be a huge undertaking though....there really are a lot of places to go in Indianapolis.

For Option 1, I think, from the lecture today, that you aren't allowed to make music videos for capstones.

For Option 2, I've met with Beth, and she needs us all to refine our capstone ideas to answer the question: "What makes our capstone different than what other people have done?"

For Option 3, that is oddly similar to one of my ideas, which was a website based around must-eat restaurants, but since you actually go to those restaurants, I'll have to tip my hat to you.

I think option 3 would be a cool way to get the popular restaurants of Indianapolis. Some people will mention a restaurant and I have usually never heard of it. So having a documentary would be pretty neat and would really show off Indianapolis and all the great food we have.

Your second idea was actually an assignment I had in one of Lewis's class. It was really fun and it turned out great. So I would think that would be a great choice.

  7. I think idea 2 is too classroom assignment like.

Idea 3 seems like a good one, since I've lived here for 10+ years and still don't know what there is to do here. Maybe that's cause I don't leave my computer (。‿°)

  9. Idea 2 could be real cool if you put some kind of twist into it. Perhaps you could take a well know scene from a movie, strip all the sound out, then place in your own music and foley work as you mentioned... but the twist would be that your music and sounds give the scene a completely different meaning and feel. Take a horror movie and turn it into a musical... or take a romantic comedy and turn it into a tragedy by just changing the sound. That would be cool.

  10. I really like option 3. I hope (if you choose this idea) that you will go around to 'mom and pop' type or non-chain restaurants because those are the ones that I would be interested in. I've been to so many chain restaurants downtown that I already have opinions about them and I would love to learn more about the smaller restaurants around here that don't have huge corporations paying tons of money on advertising. Plus another good thing about sticking with smaller restaurants is if you talk positively about them you could talk to them about putting the video up on their website or a local newspaper's website to get your name out there!

Although we discussed in class that some teachers have been against music videos for capstones but I feel that a music video that was done properly which also involved you setting up and recording all of the music and mixing it properly. I dont see why that is not an awesome displayy of your skills

I like option 3, but I wonder if it would be more valuable to do a documentary about the "hidden gems" of Indianapolis restaurants over the more famous ones.

  13. the documentary ideal would be interesting to show places people may not know about and the story behind them

I like your original idea. I know that they said that music videos were not allowed, but I suspect (though I really have no way of knowing) that your first idea could be made to work. You're wanting to record, mix, and master the audio yourself, which adds an element, and working with visual effects and such also makes it more complex. I suspect that the reason they don't want music videos is that they don't think they're complex enough, but this sounds more complex. You might have to tweak the project a bit, but I'd be surprised if you couldn't do something along those lines.

  15. I think idea 1 is an awesome idea. The idea you have and what you showed me goes way beyond a music video. I wouldn't worry about the mentors saying you can't do a music video. Yours is definitely taking it to the next level of a music video, plus if you do any of the audio yourself then you're probably doing more than a lot of people that are doing video.
